Casa Mila Roof Terrace
Myself and Jenny at Casa Mila
Parc Guell Mosaics used as Garment Textiles
I spent this past Friday night doing exactly what I wanted to do; watching Vicky Cristina Barcelona with a glass of rose. I had no idea it would prove to be such a productive evening. About a week ago, Joe Denaro asked us to collage our class drawings. I still had not yet decided what location to place my figures in. After watching this film there was no question I wanted to put them in Barcelona. Much like the film's character Vicky, I too hold an unwavering love for Antoni Gaudi's architecture.
A few summers ago, my friend Jenny and I went on a Spanish escapade through Barcelona, Ibiza, and Madrid. Without a doubt, Gaudi's most ornate, exquisite works are what resonate with me most. To be honest, I had trouble deciding between Parc Guell and Casa Mila for the background on this piece. In the end I resolved to place them on the roof of Casa Mila, while incorporating the mosaics of Parc Guell into the fabrics of the garments. This work has me dreaming of the hot sun on Las Ramblas. Enjoy!!
omg, haven't seen these pics in forev! looks great! would love to see parc guell as well xo
ReplyDeleteWe did see Parc Guell Jen lol. It took us an hour to walk up there remember haha?! We are the ORIGINAL Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Meag xx
ReplyDeleteof course i remember, I meant I would love to see you illustrate it!
ReplyDeleteOh lol, well I used the mosaics as textiles for the garments to compensate. But you're right, it would be cool. Next time I will draw you and I in Barcelona ;) San Juan firecrackers.

ReplyDeleteI just love Gaudi. i was in Spain just this summer and it was incredible to see his work. How did you get Park Guell deserted? when we went there was not a second that we had available for am empty shot, there was peopole everywhere! it was nuts.
ReplyDeleteI think it had to do with the time of year we were visiting. It was early June I believe. So gorgeous right?! Thanks so much for visiting Ania, I love your blog!! xx
ReplyDeleteMeagan, here is the link to my time in Barcelona. I blogged my whole trip so if you go to archives, end of August and Begining of September is when we were there. I ended up finishing my scrapbooks, but i feel like i did a crap job since i just wanted to finish them. i always made one from any trip i went but i think these might have been my last ones. i can't find any time anymore. i thought when scholl finished i'd have so much more of it but it's so the opposite lol. they are nice souvenirs though, better than any junk i could have brought back at any rate :P
