Tomo with Prada Fur SS11

Hello Darlings,

Once again I feel that I've been away from you all for far too long. I promise it is with very good reason. Presently there are so many wonderful opportunities coming my way and I'm embracing every single one. That translates to very little blog time, and even less me time. Good news alert, it's finally the weekend (yay) and I have a collection of my loose warm-up illustrations to share with you. Nothing particularly new, more just a continued pursuit of loosening up in my life drawings. I find it so comical actually that I go from the extreme of minimalism in my 7 minute sketches, to 12 hour realistic rendering in my finished pieces. I feel like an artistic contradiction.

This week I was able to paint my favorite model and dearest friend Tomo. If you've been following my blog since the beginning you might remember this piece I did with her titled 'Tomo Goes to Paris'. Tomo is so contemporary in her style and has such a flare for life. She's the kind of girl that makes you feel like you can't draw fast enough just to capture all her amazing outfits and awesome poses. Of course just my luck, I arrived 10 minutes late to class this week, which meant I got stuck with a sawhorse that kept getting the back view of her. This is why today's post is decidedly titled 'Back to Front'. I sort of love how the back views turned out. A little mystery is always welcome.

Lots of love,
Meag xx

  6. Beautiful illustrations! :)

You know the chance did good thing! you came late indeed, but it gave this beautiful drawing. I find that sometimes just see the back of a woman raises more sensuality and mystery that a plunging neckline! :)

    Bon week-end Meag!

  8. Sweetheart, you know how I feel about you, and I have to say, I gravitate to you more and more. It is so interesting to me to learn more about your artistic processes. I love these drawings. Loosening up is a great lesson, one that I am learning in my life lately, being ok with not being in control. Thank you for sharing! I hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend. <3 Anika

  16. When I didn't see you around for a couple of days I was a bit worried... I thought you weren't feeling OK or something like that. But then I thought that you were very busy maybe and actually it was like that and I felt relieved and very happy for you: it's true that you don't have much time for yourself, but when you do things that you like and new opportunities are coming you feel better and empowered, even if tired. It is a positive tiredness. So actually you're doing something for yourself!

Keep up... In the end this is one of the reasons why I like you the most: you're a cool woman, so determined and strong. You're so modern in your efforts to keep your private life, your interests (like the blog), your passions and your efforts for the future going like this, at high speed forward.

So we don't mind if you forget about us for a moment, because you have to think to 1000 things together :p, but don't leave us alone, we love to read your blogs and admire your drawings (which is also what I said to Kazuko actually... shit, we're all too busy lately!)

I love your sketches, it's like a concentrate of your drawing style, so personal and full of energy.

    kiss

    Al

  17. Megan- you're very kind. Thanks for all of your extremely kind comments and well wishes. :)
    In response to your questions...
well, i'm 21, I studied art in highschool and then a foundation year of a fine arts course at university (majoring in textiles. Don't really know why i made that decision). I dropped out after my first year and have just been doing the illustration thing out of my bedroom - this will be the third year - and yes, i'm trying to work as a full time illustrator. It can be a bit of a struggle but i love doing it.
I'm considering studying design at TAFE next year and then going onto a specialist illustration course afterwards.
    :)

  18. Thank-you everyone so so much!!

@Al you're far too precious!! Thank-you for all your encouragement. My goodness, I assure you I won't disappear for long ever and if I do I will let you know :)

@Caitlin thank-you ever so much for dropping by and filling me in. I can't believe you're only 21 and producing the incredible work you do. I mean WOW!! I'm just blown away by your gift. I think leaving school was obviously the right choice for you because you were able to navigate and find your voice in your art. Don't let anyone change your style because it clearly comes from your heart and is so true to you. Rock on girl and keep us posted!!

  20. oh wow, when i first wanted to comment on this post (and didn't because i was too busy), there were maybe 3 or 4 other comments. now i had to scroll and scroll down...
the illustrations are so beautiful. your friend tomo (sounds japanese?) must be very pretty!

oh, talking about that: i just checked your little raffle video - you're a stunner with that smile, blond hair and white jacket. (how did you find travelling in a country - UAE - where blondes are still super special?) xoxoxo

  21. @kazucopy you're too hilarious!! Yes precious Tomo is Japanese and she sent me photos of our day at the Balenciaga exhibit which I would love to post so people can see the real Tomo and I together. Thank-you for the major flattery love, haha!! I actually found traveling in the UAE way easier than Istanbul because everyone is so respectful in Dubai. I got some stares and was asked to take pictures with a family on the Burj Khalifa...I guess I am still a rarity there LOL xoxoxo
